A native of Houston, TX, Zvonkovic has specialized in architectural photography for over 30 years. After earning a double major in Art and Photojournalism at Stephen F. Austin State University, he began his career in Houston, hustling as a freelance assistant photographer, working and learning from numerous established professionals in vastly diverse areas of photography---fashion, still life, architecture, construction, oil and gas, and advertising. The combination of styles employed by these working professionals molded the photographer he is today.
The breadth of this early training revealed his greatest strengths. Zvonkovic’s innate ability to capture the beauty of vertical and horizontal lines that are square and plumb called him to concentrate his talents on photographing architecture.
Architectural Photography became his passion.
In 1993 Zvonkovic became partners with renowned architectural photographer Joe C. Aker, forming Aker / Zvonkovic Photography. Their commercial firm specialized in architectural interiors and exteriors as well as architectural model photography. Later in that decade, Aker and Zvonkovic created a specialty photo lab catering to other professionals in the industry. AZ LAB became synonymous with the cutting edge technology of digital retouching and printing. Gary Zvonkovic and Joe Aker are recognized as pioneers in that technically challenging field.
Today Gary Zvonkovic, is owner of his own firm. His work reflects the zeal of a perfectionist. His eye for design and crisp images has taken him all across North America and Europe to photograph projects for internationally renowned architects and developers.
Back home in Houston, he is now molding young photographers and still enjoying the challenge of capturing architectural images in today's ever-changing landscape.
